Superlatives

Add -est or use most for the highest degree.

Examples

  • the tallest
  • the most beautiful

Key rules

  • Short adjectives add -est: tall → tallest
  • Long adjectives use most: the most beautiful
  • Always use the: the tallest
  • Use in or of after it: the best in the class

Common mistakes

  • He is tallest boy → He is the tallest boy
  • She is the most happiest → She is the happiest
