Add 's to show ownership.

Examples

  • Tom's car
  • the girls' room

Key rules

  • Add 's to singular nouns: Tom's car
  • Add only an apostrophe to plural nouns ending in s: the girls' room
  • Irregular plurals add 's: children's toys
  • Use of for things: the door of the room

Common mistakes

  • The car of Tom → Tom's car
  • the childrens toys → the children's toys
