Much and Far with Comparatives

Add much or far to make a bigger difference.

Examples

• It is far cheaper online.

Key rules

• Use much, far or a lot before comparatives for a big difference (much taller, far more difficult)
• Use a bit, slightly or a little for a small difference
• Do not use very before a comparative
• Much is not used with superlatives in the same way

Common mistakes

• She is very taller → She is much taller
• far more cheaper → far cheaper
